FOWL ANNUAL MEETING

The April 9 FOWL meeting will be held at the new Alicia Ashman Branch Library on Madison's far west side and is a collaboration between the Ashman Branch Friends and the citywide Friends of the Madison Public Library.  Registration starts at 8:30 with the meeting starting at 9:00.  The meeting will feature a presentation on the history of the development of the branch, the first new library in Madison in more that 20 years, by Jack Taft, who is a members f the citywide Friends group, the Madison Library board of Trustees, and the South Central Library System board, as well as founding member of the Ashman Friends.  Time will be provided to tour the Ashman Library.  The meeting will also include a tour of the Wisconsin State Capitol building followed by lunch at the downtown library and a chance to see the used book store operated by the Friends in that facility.  Transportation will be provided to and from downtown.  At the end of the day those in attendance will also be given information for an optional self guided tour of the new Middleton Library, which is within close driving distance of Ashman and which just happens to be having a book sale that day.

The Ashman library is located just of the West Beltline highway (Hwy 12) at the corner of High Point Road and Old Sauk Road.  There are many hotels close by for anyone who will need lodging for Friday night.

2005 Fowl Awards - Membership

Every FRIENDS group has MEMBERS, so every FRIENDS group could, in fact, share something from the MEMBERSHIP area and have a chance to be a winner in Madison on April 9th.  One paragraph will do.  Tell how your FRIENDS group does any one, more than one, or all of the following:

• Get FRIENDS MEMBERS

• Retain FRIENDS MEMBERSHIP

• Unique ways of working in the MEMBERSHIP area

Include the name of your library, the Library Address, and bring your paragraph to the annual meeting in Madison on April 9th, 2005.

If any FRIENDS group is unable to attend the April meeting and would like to be eligible for one of the 2005 FOWL AWARD, send your paragraph to : FOWL 2367 S. 84th West Allis, WI 53227-2501.  All will be entered into the contest on April 9th if postmarked by April 1st.

It is hoped that the reading of these paragraphs will give all present at the annual meeting both ideas and inspiration regarding the challenging area of MEMBERSHIP in FRIENDS groups throughout WISCONSIN.
